Man (57) Drowns
A 57-year-old man from the Marine City area drowned Saturday night after falling down an embankment into the Belle River, police said.
The man was camping with friends when they heard him fall at about 9:50 p.m. near the Belle River access site at China Township Park, the St. Clair County Sheriff’s Office said in a news release.
Rescue crews removed the man from the river and administered CPR. He was pronounced dead at the scene.
Police believe the drowning was accidental, as fellow campers reported the man appeared to be highly intoxicated and officers found no signs of an altercation.
The investigation is still underway.
In addition to the sheriff’s office, Tri-Hospital EMS and the Marine City and St. Clair fire departments responded.
